Use of VR technologies (virtual reality technologies) or their partial application allow to create and manage with photo-realistic design, 3D-interface, 3D sound, 3D models and scenes, 3D Internet pages and other VR-based objects. VR technologies are generally implemented in games, simulators, and 3D museums/galleries today. The methods of its application are different and depend on the product’s area of application, desired effect and end-of-user hardware capabilities. Owing to the last factor and difficulty of application VR technologies aren’t widespread among multimedia developers. However, it can be applied to any multimedia project designed for common average computers and devices to a greater or lesser extent. The following topics are covered in this publication: rendering methods of 3D models and scenes; Intel and AMD processor commands (MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3DNow!); features and differences between graphics libraries OpenGL and DirectX; use of DirectSound and Aureal A3D Interactive SDK for 3D sound transmission, idea of HRTF. Capabilities of Creative EAX were described. Software tools were suggested for creation and application of VR and multimedia content.

Musical folklore is a complex varied and very interesting field of culture. It consists of vocal and instrumental, choreographic and literary components. Multimedia technologies give an opportunity to make as an exact and reach presentation of it as possible. This program presents Tatar national musical culture and its connections with folklore and professional music of other nations in Russian Federation, Western European countries and the Orient. The CD contains of text in Russian, Tatar and English with corresponding playable voice recordings, video, audio recordings (folklore, modifications of national melodies, fragments from professional music), photographs, illustrations, etc. The latest modern programming tools were used in creation of the program, including DirectX® with own algorithms for extending the abilities of multimedia, up-to-date filing and compression formats (MPEG-4, MP-3, JPEG, etc.). Program uses all computer’s hardware features available with optimized for processors Pentium II – Pentium IV. Great attention was paid on designing 3D intuitively plain interface. The CD has update and extension features.

Modern applications of Cultural Heritage that use innovative technologies as 3D tours, virtual cultural tours, VR, etc. perform complex rendering of objects and need hi-quality graphic output. The higher level of text layout and visualization complexity leads to problems of rendering the text in general and/or mixed simultaneous display of the text and application’s own intricate graphic data like 3D scenes. The author examined widespread requirements of multimedia applications for text related data rendering, processing and output. He developed a text processing system that meets these requirements, performs fast flexible text rendering with extended graphic capabilities and supports multifarious post-rendering routines.
