The assessment of Eremothecium oil biological activity via kinetics modelling revealed
valid positive correlations between level of bacterial multiplication and lag-phase
prolongation under different concentrations (from 0.49 to 7.81 µL/mL). Toxicity intensity
correlated with phenyl ethanol (R = –0.9; strong negative association), geraniol (R = 0.6;
moderate positive association), nerol (R = –0.55; moderate negative association),
linalool (R = –0.74; strong negative association), and total monoterpene alcohol (R = 0.5;
moderate positive association) content.

We examined the accumulation of phenylethanol, geraniol, citronellol, and nerol by Eremothecium ashbyi Guillermond 1935 strains characterized by different levels of riboflavin synthesis. There was a significant positive correlation between riboflavin and monoterpene alcohol biosyntheses (Spearman’s correlation coefficients = 0.81–1.00, p ≤ 0.05). Strain accumulation of the main secondary metabolites such as vitamin B2 and aroma forming compounds was found to be accompanied with an increase in the lipid droplet quantities and the vacuole filling with lipophilic compounds. These phenomena may be used as an indirect measure of riboflavinogenesis intensity and essential oil synthesis.

Рurposе. To study antimicrobial activity of fume of the essential oil of peppermint against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Materials and methods: The screening study of antimicrobial activity of solutions of essential oil by disk-diffusion method and activity of essential oil fume of own preparation and pharmaceutical form of oil according to standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Esсherichia coli and 12 clinical strains of staphylococci (6 methicillin-resistant and 6 methicillin-sensitive) has been carried out. Results: Essential oil of own preparation and pharmaceutical form showed equal antimicrobial activity against strains of staphylococci. Essential oil of own preparation has been determined to reveal higher activity against gram-negative strains. Conclusion: Received data have proved the presence of antimicrobial activity against all strains of microorganisms and mostly against staphy-lococci

The ovicidal and larvicidal efficacy of essential oils extracted from the tubers of Cyperus giganteus Vahl and Cyperus rotundus Linn. was studied on eggs and fourth instar larvae of Aedes albopictus (Skuse). The eggs and larvae were exposed to serial concentration of the oils ranging from 5-150 ppm and kept under observation for 24h. Both the oils showed remarkable ovicidal and larvicidal activities indicated by EC50 values of <5 ppm and LC50 and LC90 values of <20 ppm. The results obtained suggest that the essential oils of these Cyperus species can serve as a potential source of natural mosquitocidal agents.

Toxic effect of the essential oils of Lavendula angustifolia, Bursera pencillata, Syzygium
aromaticum and Cyperus rotundus has been evaluated against the coconut mite, Aceria
guerreronis through bioassay on infested coconuts. The study has established the toxicity
of all the four oils on the mite to varying extent. L. angustifolia (EC50 = 0.09 and EC90 =
1.30 mg/nut) recorded highest acute toxicity. This is followed by B. pencillata, (EC50 =
0.12 and EC90 = 1.09mg/nut) S. aromaticum , (EC50 = 0.20 and EC90 = 1.22mg/nut) and
C. rotundus (EC50 = 0.28 and EC90 = 1.56mg/nut) respectively. The investigation further
highlighted the potential of these oils for the regulation of the coconut mite and the
prospects of essential oils of plants as a novel source of acaricides.
