Loss of financial independence in the Russian book business is becoming a common trend due to increase of M&A deals number. The conference report includes examples of M&A transactions in Russia (AST and Penguin Books, Azbooka-Atticus and Lagardere Publishing) and abroad (Penguin and Random House, Google and John Wiley & Sons etc.). The main reasons for mergers and acquisitions are highlighted as well as causes of financial independence loss in book market. Also development perspectives of the situation in Russian book publishing market are presented.
