A thyroid nodule is a solid or cystic lump on the thyroid gland, which involves in the occurrences of various thyroid carcinomas with a notable clinical importance. The present study aimed to observe the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound (US) in the assessment of thyroid masses compared to pathologic findings. This analytical, epidemiologic study was conducted on 307 patients that were referred to the radiology unit between November 2013 and March 2014 for fine needle aspiration (FNA) of suspected thyroid nodules. There was a significant correlation between echogenicity and pathologic results, which mean more hyper-echogenicity leads to more benign condition (P=0.004). There was no significant correlation between the calcification and the marginal appearance with pathologic results (P=0.270, P=0.860, respectively). There was a significant correlation between the length and width with pathologic results, which mean the shorter length and width lead to a more benign condition (P=0.015, P=0.040, respectively). Besides, there was no significant correlation between vascularity or the age with pathologic results (P=0.450, P=0.930, respectively). This study showed that US could give an incremental value to differentiate benign and malignancy thyroid nodule. Due to the high specificity and predicted values in the detection of benign cases, ultrasound findings can help to favor invasive procedures or follow up of thyroid nodules.

Objective — The aim of this study is to examine the data retrospectively from patients with inactive HBV whose livers were evaluated by ultrasonography and to investigate hepatosteatosis as well as related parameters in this patient group. Material and Methods — In our study, the data of 134 patients, who have applied to the Internal Disease Polyclinic of Elazığ Çağrı Private Medical Center between January 2010 and August 2013 being diagnosed as carriers for inactive HBV and then performed abdominal ultrasonography, were evaluated retrospectively. Information for each patient was accessed by means of both the internal disease polyclinic in our hospital and patient epicrisis reports. The observed levels of plasma trigliserides, LDL cholesterol, AST, ALT, GGT, and ALP were all recorded. Findings — Out of 134 subjects, 72 were male while 62 were female accounting for 54% and 46%, respectively. The mean age of the patients were found to be 44.8±10.6 years old. Hepatosteatosis was found in 92 patients accounting for 68.7 %. The mean of age in some patients diagnosed with steatosis was found 50.1±7.6 years, while the others without steatosis was 33.2±6.0 years suggesting a significant difference compared to the former (p=0.001). Furthermore, a consistency in difference was also found between these two groups with and without hepatosteatosis in terms of average triglyceride levels (p=0.001). The mean GGT levels were consistently higher in the group with hepotosteatosis (p=0.004). No significant difference was found between these two groups regarding their mean cholesterol levels of AST, ALT, ALP, and LDL. Conclusion — In patients with asymptomatically HBV infection, an increased risk for hepatosteatosis comes along with an increased levels of plasma triglycerides and GGT in the course of aging.

Aim: To evaluate the possibilities of the magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) in diagnostics and identification of neurosyphilis. Materials and methods: A total of 1387 patients with different forms of documented neurosyphilis were examined to study the deficiency of neurological function. The diagnosis of neurosyphilis was confirmed by CSF-study. MRT was performed in 57 cases. Results: Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) in 6 patients showed no pathology, 16 patients had arachnoid cystic changes and in 16 cases hydrocephaly occurred. Cerebral cortical atrophy was presented in 13 patients, in 12 cases — multifocal changes were visualized, 12 patients had white matter structural changes. Two cases required diagnostics. A 59-year-old man was hospitalized with epileptic seizure, progressive dementia and multifocal neurologic symptoms. A 40-year-old man was examined with recurring episodes of acute cere-brospinal accident and progressing cognitive disorders. Conclusion: MRT could be used in differential diagnostics of neurosyphilis imitating space-occupying lesions of cerebrum and spinal cord, tumors of central nervous system and could help to define the form of neurosyphilis
