Aim: reduction of the morbidity, disability and improved quality of life after surgery on the thyroid gland. Material and methods. Surgical treatment of the thyroid diseases have been performed to 56 patients. Mobilization of the thyroid gland and the separation of the pretracheal, preguttural and paratracheal tissues were performed by standard techniques using electrocoagulation and blunt separation of tissues in the control group. Mobilization of the thyroid gland and the separation of pretracheal, preguttural and paratracheal tissues were performed using a water-jet dissector ERBEjet 2 and the pressure of the water jet 25 bars in the main group of patients. Violations of voice (dysphonia), swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), the overall incidence of postoperative complications, length of postoperative hospital stay were markers of the effectiveness of the prevention of the damage of the recurrent laryngeal nerve afterthyroid surgery. Assessment of the quality of life of patients after surgery on the thyroid gland was performed before surgery, at 3 and 6 months after surgery. Results. Damage of the recurrent laryngeal nerve was not identified in any of the patient as a result of water jet dissection with pressure of the water jet 25 bars during the operation. Nerve function in the postoperative period were preserved in 100% (p <0.05). Application of the proposed method of preventing damage to the recurrent laryngeal nerve afterthyroid surgery resulted in a leveling of postoperative complications, as well as a statistically significant reduction of postoperative hospital stay. Using of the water jet dissection for mobilize of the thyroid and parathyroid tissues with a pressure of the water jet 25 bars significantly improves the quality of life of patients in the postoperative period. Conclusion. Application of the water jet dissection with pressure of the water jet 25 bars in thyroid surgery is a safe and effective method to prevent damage of the recurrent laryngeal nerve and improves the quality of life of patients in the postoperative period.

Aim: to determine the functioning peculiarities of endocrine system of young men athletes. Material and methods. The were examined 84 athletes and 70 cadets of the Marine Academy. The check-up included the following procedures: the ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland, the assessment of hormonal status (determination of concentrations in serum prolactin, cortisol, thyroid stimulating hormone, free thyroxin, antibodies to thyroid peroxidase). Results. It was established that athletes comparing with people not involved in sports, had significantly higher concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone, and lower concentrations of cortisol, free thyroxin. In athletes it was revealed a positive correlation between the levels of cortisol, thyroid-stimulating hormone, free thyroxin and prolactin in serum. Conclusion. High TSH level and relatively low values of cortisol can be considered as indicators of the higher performance of an athlete and be regarded as a reflection of optimal adaptation of the pituitary-thyroid and pituitary-adrenal systems to systematic high physical loads.

Aim. A detail consideration has been done to assess an importance of the contribution of gamma-emission of incorporated cesium radioisotopes to the exposure rate measured near the thyroid by the public survey for following the Chernobyl accident. Empirical ratios have been derived to take into account that contribution under interpretation of the results of survey meter monitoring of the public. Materials and methods. Model calculations for typical radionuclide intake by the residents living in contaminated territories after the Chernobyl accident have been carried out in order to assess the contribution of gamma-emission of incorporated cesium radioisotopes to the exposure rate measured near the thyroid by the survey. Under such calculations two the most important modes of intake have been considered: 1) inhalation and 2) ingestion with cow milk. Results. According to the estimates received the contribution of gamma-emission of incorporated cesium radioisotopes to the exposure rate measured near the thyroid during the first 20 days does not exceed 20% for the residents of southern areas of Gomel region and 30% for the residents of Mogil'yov region. During 60 days following the accident that contribution is estimated to be within (50-80) % for the residents of southern areas of Gomel region and (80-95) % for the residents of Mogil'yov region. Conclusion. For the period of intensive thyroid measuring in the southern areas of Gomel region (the second part of May) account of the contribution of gamma-emission of incorporated cesium radioisotopes is relatively unimportant, but for Mogil'yov region (the end of May) — it is important to account for. For the thyroid measurements conducted in June of 1986 it is important for all residents living in Belarus to take into account the contribution of gamma-emission of incorporated cesium radioisotopes.

In the chronic stress conditions oppression of functional activity of thyroid gland is revealed. Influence of terahertz radiation at the nitric oxide frequency of 150,176-150,664 GHz on functional activity of thyroid gland in the conditions of chronic experimental stress was studied. It was shown that during 15 minutes of influence of terahertz waves at nitric oxide frequency partial restoration of studied indicators of activity of thyroid gland was observed in stressed animals. At 30 minute mode of influence of specified waves a complete recovery of broken indicators of functional condition of thyroid gland was determined
