This article reviews studies of Fixion expandable nail biomechanical properties in case of long bones fractures osteosynthesis. The purpose of this study was to systematize biomechanical researches dedicated to the expandable nail. There were found seven biomechanical studies published between 2005 and 2008. Among them, six studies are devoted to mechanical experiments, and one is a comment to the published study. In four papers, the authors compared biomechanical properties of expandable and locked nails. Expandable nail proved to be a highly effective device for fixation of long bone fractures. However, in case of mid-shaft fractures Fixion nail was significantly less stable than standard locked nails. This conclusion was obtained for humeri, tibia and femur. Stiffness of bone-implant system for expandable nail in case of torsional loads was significantly lower than the similar parameter of standard implant in case of transverse fracture models. Expandable Fixion nail rod should be used with great caution for osteosynthesis of long bones transverse shaft fractures. In contrast, in the case of oblique and spiral fractures, when contact area between fragments is sufficiently high and can share loads between nail and bone fragments, the expandable nail should be used.

The aim of the research is to identify common patterns of compensatory changes in internal architectonics of the proximal femur with valgus and varus deformity. Material and Methods. The parameters of the proximal femur were determined on the basis of 78 roentgenograms of children with hip dysplasia (1-4 years, 4-7 years, 7-16 years) before and after surgical treatment (after 6 months). Results. The degree of change in internal architectonics of the bone substance has been determined after changing of the femoral neck-shaft angle achieved with the help of correcting osteotomy in different age groups. Conclusion. Maximum recovery of internal architectonics of the bone substance is observed in the groups aged 4-7 years.

Although the basic components of a plethora of mitogenic, pro- and antiapoptotic etc. signaling pathways had been thoroughly studied and summarized during a couple of past decades, the particular pattern of changes for a given cancer patient has not yet been at the focus of a special research until now. Here we suggest the possible method of the examination of the different malignant processes influencing the intensity of pro- and anti-mitotic signaling. According to our approach, first the tumor sample (that is taken from an individual patient) is studied using mRNA microarray technique, when the expression levels (normalized by the averaged value for the same intact organ/tissue for the same population) for several thousands of genes in the malignant cells is measured. Second, these expression levels are used to calculate the summarized values of pathological changes in mitogenic signaling pathways.

In the work comparison of two methods of pertrochanteric fracture fixation has been carried out: external one, with the help of the transosseous device and immersed one, by the dynamic femoral system. The investigation of the process of dislocation of fragments has been done on biophantomes. The dynamic compression in the external fixation device increases stability of the biomechanical system «bone-fixator» in 3-4 times. The use of single-stage fracture compression with dynamic femoral system allows to create stable fixation of fragments, adequate for early mobilization of patients
