The paper looks into different methods of analyzing “particles”, and their “weight”in syntactic as well as semantic quality of the phrases they are in. Linguistics knows a lot of ways to look into inner forms of words, even into the so- called “particles”. The current analysis is based on interpretive and cognitive approaches that can be useful to see the implicit assumption that is embedded within the mental maps or frames of norms and values of the units in question.

Abstract The paper looks into convergence as a kind of concept, which is complex in its nature as it reflects an impact of one culture over another, implied in different languages. To compile “converged” lexical entries it is necessary to show not only how the languages in question encode a particular experience of the world or how extra linguistic or cultural realis is interpreted but also what fosters their differences to be levelled.

u Abstract The paper focuses on intercultural variables and their impact on formulating and making lexico-semantic domains in different languages. Much attention is paid to the essence of intercultural variables: culture, knowledge, language, traditions, beliefs, politics, social life. The paper demonstrates the methodology, which combines cognitive, lexico-semantic, and informative approaches. Taking into account that lexical structure encodes the way we comprehend the world around us, a close relationship between lexicalization of concepts and knowledge in its broad sense is highlighted in the paper.

Использование понятия «эпистема» в «Словах и вещах» М. Фуко указывает на присутствие некоторой неклассической философии истории, пусть даже в состоянии проекта. Другая загадка, заданная Фуко, это авторство нескольких проектов: археологии, генеалогии, герменевтики субъективности. Известно, что понятие «эпистемы» характеризует только «археологический» период Фуко. Однако, в определённом, небиографическом смысле, отношение эпистемы и истории оказывается ведущим для понимания всего корпуса работ философа. Эпистема описывает тот факт, что в истории современного знания мы не можем с лёгкостью позволить себе указание на преемственность по отношению к любой точке на прямой некоторой «рациональности», «европейской субъективности» и т.д. Introduction: Misconceptions and inadequate knowledge remains significant barrier towards prevention and control of diabetes in developing countries. Epidemiological shift of diabetes towards children makes mothers potential agents for any drive that targets diabetes. Objective: To assess knowledge and perception of mothers of under five children regarding etiology of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus. Material and Methods: Present hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 mothers of under five children attending Paediatric OPD of Agartala Govt. Medical College between May-June, 2012. Data was collected using a pre-designed questionnaire and information on socio-demographic characteristics, basic knowledge of mothers about diabetes and their perception regarding aetiology of Type-II DM was obtained. Data was analyzed using SPSS software version 17.0. Results: 12% and 7.5% mothers respectively believed that only old people and males suffer from diabetes. 73% mothers opined that diabetes can be prevented. 10.5% and 12% mothers believed that diabetes is contagious and caused by past sins. 39.5% mothers suggested that consumption of more sugar causes diabetes. Ethnicity was strongly associated with overall knowledge of mother regarding diabetes (Bengali mothers had more knowledge compared to tribal mothers). Knowledge of mothers regarding etiology of diabetes was associated with their ethnicity, type of family and occupation. However, caste, education, and family H/O of diabetes was not associated with knowledge regarding etiology of diabetes among respondent mothers. Conclusion: Knowledge and perception of mothers regarding diabetes was good, though inappropriate at times. Various misconceptions regarding etiology of diabetes, especially among tribal mothers, need to be addressed in the study area.

Background: Swine flu/Novel H1N1 influenza Pandemic was in Phase 6 in June 2009. Success of mitigation would depend on compliance of the community particularly to non-pharmacological interventions which in turn would be dependent on the familiarity regarding prevention and control of flu pandemic. Methodology: This was a cross sectional study among out-patient attendees of a tertiary and primary health care facility in Puducherry, wherein 267 patients were interviewed to assess the knowledge about swine flu and factors determining it. The knowledge was categorised as Good (50-100 %) and Poor (0-49.99%), and simple scoring method was used. A subcategory of Good was defined as Very Good if knowledge score was > 75%. Data was summarised using proportions and analysed using Chi-square test for associations using statistical package for social science (SPSS version 17.0). P value < 0.05 was taken as significant. Results: Good knowledge (score > 50 %) was significantly associated with younger age, literacy, accessibility to information hoardings within the premises of health facility and multiple sources of information. Three fourths weren’t aware of the correct method of diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Conclusions: There were lacunae in knowledge level regarding swine flu among study subjects. There was need for future research for evaluating the impact of need based health messages on health seeking behaviour among the people.

We live now in a networked world where enormous amounts of information are constantly produced and spread. Knowledge is distributed among the growing number of actors; it is loosely structured and coordinated. At the same time, knowledge is more and more specialized. The rapid growth of communications has not brought about a creative breakthrough. Yet knowledge-based society is impossible without constant creation of fundamentally new knowledge. Advanced collaboration mechanisms are the possible response to the growing diversity and pressure of information. However, there is still no model of collective knowledge creation that would make ivory towers merge into open ecosystems of knowledge - knowledgecreating systems. We argue that the possibility to develop and implement such a model lies in understanding the mechanism of real-time micro-level social interaction (knowledge creation ritual) that allows networks of intellectuals to act as a loosely connected yet unified whole. The model we elaborate brings together thinking, emotional energy, and communication and links micro-level cognitive processes to large-scale network structures, figuring out the opportunities to continuously produce new knowledge. We discuss how the system of knowledge production should be socially organized in order to produce maximum effect of the mechanisms of collective knowledge creation.

The research goal is to assess Medical Doctors' knowledge of the various dental specialties and to determine if their past dental experience affects their level of knowledge. Resident Doctors and Medical Officers working in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria were surveyed with self-administered questionnaire in 2008. A total of 142 doctors responded to the questionnaire, giving a response rate of 71%. The female: male ratio was approximately 1:2.5. The designations of respondents were Senior Registrar 21.8%, Registrar 48.6% and Medical Officers 29.6%. The Departments that returned the questionnaire were Internal Medicine 21.1%, Surgery 19%, Paediatrics 15.5% Family Medicine 11.3%, Accident and Emergency 5.6%, Radiology 4.9%, Ophthalmology 8.5%, Pathology 5.6%, Anaesthesiology 5.6% and Mental Health 2.8% The mean knowledge score was 10.1±3.3. (Maximum score =21). Only a small percentage (5.6%) had a good knowledge (scored above 16), 79.6% had a fair knowledge (scored 8-15) and 14.8% had a very poor knowledge (scored less than 8). Doctor with history of previous dental treatment had better knowledge (P=0.03). The knowledge of Medical Doctors about the various areas in Dentistry is presently not satisfactory. Comprehensive care of patients, which includes prompt and appropriate referral, can be optimized by improvement of Doctors' knowledge of dental specialty through seminars and other educational interventions
