Lipids are one of the main components of cellular membranes. Lipids make up 30-55% of the cell content depending on the types of cells. Phospholipids, sphingomyelins, cholesterol, etc. are characteristic to cellular membranes. The composition of lipids of the both sides of the membranes differs. This fact determines asymmetry of the structure of bili-pid layer. The reason for many pathologies is the changes in the properties of cellular membranes with the modification of their components. The study of structure and functioning of cellular biomembranes is essential for many researchers. The condition of membranes, their quality, their quantitative composition and modification under the influence of different factors as well as their interaction with carbohydrate and protein component are of great importance for the functioning of both membranes, cells and the body in general. Analysis and structuring of lipids and their functions in biological membranes are studied.

The aim of the investigation was to study the level of blood high density lipoproteins (HDL) in the groups of children with different course of diadetes type I in order to find out the dependence of course and complications of diabetes on that level. Materials and methods: Blood high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels were investigated in children and adolescents with diadetes type I, depending on the duration of diadetes type I, age, stage of sexual development, the stage of diabetic nephropathy and levels of plasma endothelin-1 (E-1). Results: Decrease in HDL level with increasing duration of diadetes type I in prepubertate patients, higher indices of HDL cholesterol were determined in girls, especially with impaired puberty. HDL cholesterol was higher in diabetic nephropathy at the stage of proteinuria and high level of blood endothelin-1. Conclusion: The revealed changes were considered to cause deregulation of vascular endothelium as a manifestation of the initial stages of endothelial dysfunction

Investigation of proinflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines content in blood serum (IL-1 (3, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, INF-y, IL-17) was carried out for establishment of clinical and diagnostic value of disturbances of immunoregulatory processes and lipid spectrum in patients with psoriasis. Method of solid phase immune-enzyme analysis and indicators of lipid profile on biochemical analyzer Stat Fax were used in the study. It was found out that psoriasis exacerbation was accompanied by change of proinflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines in blood serum and increase of lipid profile level. The hyperproliferation and inflammatory skin changes in case of psoriasis exacerbation were accompanied by hyperproduction of cytokines and disturbance of immunoregulatory processes to Th-2 cellular answer including autoimmune processes. The described changes led to raised synthesis of lipids and to their entry into peripheral blood flow. Determination of proinflammatory cytokines and lipids level in blood serum in patients with psoriasis can be used for an estimation of severity of disease, its development prognosis and administered therapy

The research goal is to examine the lipid spectrum and to evaluate the effectiveness of somatropin therapy for correcting metabolic disorders in children with various forms of short stature. 60 children (30 with growth hormone deficiency and 30 with constitutional delayed growth) have been examined. Total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein in blood serum have been studied before treatment and after one year of somatropin therapy. Atherogenic coefficient has been calculated. The results have been compared with the control group. Dyslipidemia characterized by increase of total cholesterol level (4.70±1.51 mmol/l) and low-density lipoprotein (2.46±1.04 mmol/l) has been found in children with growth hormone deficiency. 13.3% of those children had increased atherogenic coefficient. Increase of low-density lipoprotein level (2.64±0.39 mmol/l) and of high-density lipoprotein level (1.96±0.56 mmol/l) in children with constitutional delayed growth has been observed. Due to somatropin therapy these indicators have been normalized within the year in patients of both groups. Dyslipidemia remained stable in children with constitutional delayed growth, who did not receive somatropin treatment. The influence of growth hormone deficiency on dyslipidemia development in children with short stature and effectiveness of somatropin therapy for correcting lipids disorders have been demonstrated

Present review describes research on novel natural anticancer agents isolated from terrestrial and marine sources. More than 120 cytotoxic anticancer compounds have shown confirmed activity in tumor cell lines bioassay and are of current interest to National Cancer Institute for further in vivo evaluation. Intensive searchers for new classes of pharmacologically potent agents produced by terrestrial and marine organisms have resulted in the discovery of dozens of compounds posessing high cytotoxic activities. However, only a limited number of them have been tested in pre-clinical and clinical trials. One of the reasons is a limited supply of the active ingedients from the natural sources. However, the pre-clinical and clinical development of many terrestrial and/or marine derived natural products into pharmaceuticals is often hampered by a limited supply from the natural source. Total synthesis is of vital importnace in these situations, allowing for the production of useful quantities of the target compound for further biological evaluation. With computer program PASS some additional biological activities are also predicted, which point toward new possible applications of these compounds. This review emphasizes the role of terrestrial and marine peroxides as an important soure of leads for drug discovery.
