The aim: to assess the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in children with chronic inflammatory diseases of stomach and duodenum. Material and methods. 67 children with chronic inflammatory diseases of gastroduo-denal zone have been investigated. The substrate of the study included the serum and portion of gastric content. The data obtained were compared with a group of healthy children. Results. Maximum high content of VEGF was identified in children with duodenal ulcer. Conclusion. The content of this indicator depended on the Helicobacter pylori infection.

The research goal is to investigate age and sex influence on formation of gastroesophageal reflux disease in children with chronic gastroduodenitis. Material and Methods. Features of acidity in esophagus and cardial part of stomach was studied in 175 children aged 4 to 17 years with chronic gastroduodenitis by pH-monitoring. pH-monitoring was carried by «Gastroscan-24». Age and sex characteristics have been identified on examination results. Results. Children of preschool age experience the most unfavorable reflux from the stomach to the esophagus. Boys experience the pathological reflux more severely. Conclusions: Effectiveness of esophageal clearance is lower in children of preschool age. Pathological reflux progresses are more favorably in a standing position, especially in children of preschool age. Pathological reflux occurs more often in the supine position and has a longer and more aggressive course in preschool age boys.

Estimating the effects of small doses of ionising radiation on DNA is one of the most important problems in modern biology. Different cytogenetic methods exist to analyse DNA damage; the cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay (CBMN) for human peripheral blood lymphocytes is a simple, cheap and informative cytogenetic method that can be used to detect genotoxic-related markers. With respect to previous studies on radiationinduced genotoxicity, children are a poorly studied group, as evidenced by the few publications in this area. In this study, we assessed radon genotoxic effects by counting micronuclei (MN), nucleoplasmic bridges (NPBs)and nuclear buds (NBUDs) in the lymphocytes of children who are long-term residents from areas with high radon concentrations. In the exposed group, radon was found to cause significant cytogenetic alterations. We propose that this method can be employed for biomonitoring to screen for a variety of measures.

Objective: to study the causes and clinical manifestations of disease in children referred for hospitalization in children infectious diseases hospital in Saratov with a diagnosis of «acute flaccid paralysis». Material and methods: 157 children with the diagnosis on admission of the guide «acute flaccid paralysis». Conducted clinical examination and laboratory tests included a general analysis of cerebrospinal fluid, urine, virological examination of nasal swabs and faeces, with the definition of a serological ELISA method and RPHA immunoglobulins to influenza, rubella, and enterovirus, immunological study of blood, cerebrospinal fluid PCR, electromyography of the affected limbs. Results. 77 patients (49%) with the disease associated with the violation of the musculoskeletal system were registered. In the other cases revealed polyneuropathy was not of poliovirus etiology. Etiological nature of the disease could be explained by 54% of patients. In 37 (46%) patients the diagnosis was formulated in accordance with the severity of paralysis. One child was diagnosed with a vaccine-associated poliomyelitis. Conclusion. The diagnosis of «acute flaccid paralysis» used as administered requires a detailed interpretation in a hospital.

Purpose: to compare the antimicrobial efficacy of chlorhexidine bigluconate used in different forms for the treatment of acute deep caries, to define the percentage of complications in the treatment of acute deep caries in children on the stage of its development in 6 and 12 months. Material and methods: Bacteriological study of demineralized dentin taken from the bottom of «the work space» by the sterile instrument, clinical monitoring of children after 6 and 12 months. Results. A significant reduction of colonies forming odontopathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms during the application of the film «Diplen» and a high percentage of favorable outcomes over the period of follow-up in the second study group. Conclusion. Qualitative etiological treatment conducted in a timely manner taking into account the structural features of hard and soft tissues of the tooth, creates the conditions for full formation of all tooth tissues.

Objective: To analyze the clinical and epidemiological characteristics in the post-pandemic influenza seasons in 2010/11/12/13 years. Material and methods: The analysis of the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and flu in the Saratov region from 2009 to 2013. A clinical and laboratory examination of 252 patients with a diagnosis of «flu»: 152 pregnant women at different stages of pregnancy at the age of 18 years to 41 years and 100 children aged from 5 months to 14 years. The work was carried out to assess the epidemiological pattern and clinical course of influenza, and the effective operation of antiviral therapy. Results: In the post-pandemic period 2010-2013 simultaneously circulating influenza A viruses (N1N1/09) pd, influenza A (H3N2) and influenza B. In most cases, influenza in adults and children is of moderate form. All serious forms of influenza have been caused by influenza A with the development of viral-bacterial pneumonia, respiratory failure and neurotoxic syndrome. Late hospitalization and absence of antiviral therapy in the prehospital are at risk of severe and complicated forms. Conclusion: Early initiation of antiviral therapy is one of the main factors for the effectiveness of treatment and reduce the risk of influenza complications.

Introduction: Misconceptions and inadequate knowledge remains significant barrier towards prevention and control of diabetes in developing countries. Epidemiological shift of diabetes towards children makes mothers potential agents for any drive that targets diabetes. Objective: To assess knowledge and perception of mothers of under five children regarding etiology of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus. Material and Methods: Present hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 mothers of under five children attending Paediatric OPD of Agartala Govt. Medical College between May-June, 2012. Data was collected using a pre-designed questionnaire and information on socio-demographic characteristics, basic knowledge of mothers about diabetes and their perception regarding aetiology of Type-II DM was obtained. Data was analyzed using SPSS software version 17.0. Results: 12% and 7.5% mothers respectively believed that only old people and males suffer from diabetes. 73% mothers opined that diabetes can be prevented. 10.5% and 12% mothers believed that diabetes is contagious and caused by past sins. 39.5% mothers suggested that consumption of more sugar causes diabetes. Ethnicity was strongly associated with overall knowledge of mother regarding diabetes (Bengali mothers had more knowledge compared to tribal mothers). Knowledge of mothers regarding etiology of diabetes was associated with their ethnicity, type of family and occupation. However, caste, education, and family H/O of diabetes was not associated with knowledge regarding etiology of diabetes among respondent mothers. Conclusion: Knowledge and perception of mothers regarding diabetes was good, though inappropriate at times. Various misconceptions regarding etiology of diabetes, especially among tribal mothers, need to be addressed in the study area.
